Sofia Caldas is a PhD student in Chemical Engineering at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. She holds a Bachelor’s degree (2023) and a Master’s degree (2025) in Chemical Engineering from the same institution. Her Master’s dissertation, entitled “Circularity Applied to Polymeric Waste in the Ceramic Sector”, focused on the valorization of polymeric residues within a circular economy framework. Since March 2025, she has been a researcher at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, the largest Portuguese research institute in Materials Science and Engineering, first under a Master’s fellowship and currently supported by a doctoral scholarship within the CiPoCer project – Circularity of Polymeric Waste from the Ceramic Sector. Her current research focuses on the chemical recycling of engineering polymers, particularly Nylon and Polycarbonate, aiming to develop sustainable strategies for their valorization and reintegration into the value chain, contributing to the advancement of circular economy approaches in polymer science.
