Graça Minas is Associate Professor at Department of Industrial Electronics University of Minho (UMinho), and a researcher at the Center for MicroElectromechanical Systems (CMEMS, UMinho). She graduated in Industrial Electronics Engineering in 1994, received the M.Sc. degree in 1998 and the Ph.D. degree in 2004, all from the University of Minho, Guimarães, Portugal. Her PhD thesis work was in cooperation with the Laboratory for Electronic Instrumentation of the Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, and dealt with lab-on-a-chips for biological fluids analysis. Her main research is mostly centered in the area of biomedical microdevices, specifically in Lab-on-a-chip, integration of electronic circuits and optical filters, solid-state integrated sensors, biosensors, actuators and, more recently, in organ-on-a-chip. She has participated in 25 national and European projects and has been Principal Investigator in 8 of them (5 of these 8 are finished), in the area of microsystems for biomedical devices. She has published more than 150 scientific papers that accumulate >1400 citations (ISI-Scopus), corresponding to h-index of 20. She has 8 patents and more 5 at a provisional stage. She supervised 2 postdoc fellows, 12 PhD thesis (8 finished), 35 finished master thesis and many research fellows, all in the field of Biomedical and Electronics Engineering. Her internationalization is seen by her role as expert evaluator of International, European and National projects. She is a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals in the field of biomedical microsystems, such as Sensors & Transducers, Journal of Sensor Technology, Journal of Biomedical Science and Engineering, American Journal of Optics and Photonics, Applied Sciences. She is guest editor of (1) Cancers, special issue: Cancer-on-a-Chip: Applications and Challenges of (2) Sensors: special issue: Organ-on-a-chip and Biosensors and of (3) Micromachines, special issue: Advances and Challenges in Biofabrication and Organ-on-a-chip Platforms; of (4) JBF: special issue: Advances and Challenges of Biomodels for Medical Applications, all from MDPI. She is member of the Organ-on-a-chip technologies network. She was opponent of several PhD and M. Sc. academic proof readings (some outside Portugal). She lectures Master courses in Biomedical and Physics Engineering and in the Micro/Nano Technology, as well as in Doctoral Program of Biomedical Engineering, in the field of biosensors, microelectronics and microsystems fabrication. She is Director of the Department of Industrial Electronics of University of Minho, since January 2021, and she was Director of the Micro/Nano Technologies M. Sc degree (2008-2012) and Deputy director (2006-2007) and Director of the biomedical engineering M. Sc degree (on 2008). She is member of the Scientific Council of Engineering School at UMinho, since 2019.
