Joana Santos finished her master degree in Toxicology and Ecotoxicology in 2018 at University of Aveiro. She graduated in Biology, at the same university, in 2016. She was a research fellow in the project UNRAvEL-Understanding the Mechanisms of Toxicity of NanomateRials at the University of Aveiro - Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM). She started her PhD fellowship in January 2022. She has 16 publications (12 of them as first or co-first author) in international peer reviewed journals, as well as 6 presentations on relevant conferences. She already mentored 17 undergraduated students, and attended events dedicated to non-scientific community, such as "Academia de Verão" and "XPERIMENTA". Her current interests are: the effects of contaminants on embryonic development and the repercussions of this exposure in adult stages; the effects of engineered nanomaterials in soil and aquatic organisms; nanoplastics as a vector of transport for other contaminants in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, application of hybrid nanomaterials in water remediation.
