Dima Mohammed is a senior research fellow at the Reasoning and Argumentation Lab of the NOVA Institute of Philosophy (IFILNOVA), and adjunct professor of communication at The NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities - Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. Dima holds a PhD degree in Argumentation Theory (University of Amsterdam, 2009). Her research focuses on the complexities of public political arguments and the challenges these pose. She is particularly interested in questions related to the strategic shape and the rationality of argumentative exchanges, with a focus on the discursive management of disagreement. She has taught argumentation and persuasion in several universities in the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland and Canada and served as member of programme and organising committees of various argumentation conferences including the 1st European Conference on Argumentation (ECA Lisbon 2015) and OSSA 2016. Before joining the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Dima was a lecturer and a researcher at the Department of Speech Communication, Argumentation Theory and Rhetoric at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She also worked as a researcher and programme manager at the Institute of Communication and Health of the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the University of Lugano, Switzerland. Dima holds a bachelor degree in English Linguistics and Literature from the University of Birzeit, Palestine, and a master degree in Logic, Language and Argumentation from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her PhD dissertation, entitled “The Honourable Gentleman Should Make Up His Mind”. Strategic Manoeuvring with Accusations of Inconsistency in Prime Minister's Question Time, was defended at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam, and was awarded the Best PhD Dissertation of 2009 Award by the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis –ASCA.
