I graduated in Biology from the University of Lisbon in 2009 (17/20 score), subsequently enrolling in a Marine Ecology MSc at the same University (19/20 score), where I studied the thermal tolerance of coastal species (vertebrates and invertebrates) and associated vulnerability to climate change. In 2012 I started a PhD program in Sustainable Chemistry at the NOVA University of Lisbon (UCIBIO), graduating in 2016. My work was focused on the effects of ocean warming throughout the life cycle of the gilt-head sea bream using physiological, biochemical and proteomics approaches to unravel the acclimation potential of this commercially important marine fish. Concomitantly, I was dedicated to continue my MSc’s work by assessing the molecular mechanisms associated with thermal tolerance and acclimation capacity in intertidal organisms from temperate and tropical regions. I was trained in animal experimentation and expanded my skills in data analysis, proteomics and marine evolution by attending advanced courses in national and foreign institutions. By the end of 2017 I joined CESAM (University of Aveiro) as a post-doctoral research fellow to study the molecular mechanisms underpinning transgenerational plastic responses in marine worms under a global change framework, in collaboration with the University of Québec at Rimouski (UQAR, Canada). This fostered the development of an international network of collaborators, which has expanded in 2018 to the Federal University of Rio Grande (Brazil) to study the effects of climate change on marine Antarctic communities through a PROANTAR funded project. Meanwhile, I was awarded a junior researcher contract by the Foundation for Science and Technology (CEEC 2018). I was an invited speaker at 5 events at national and foreign institutions including three seminars (FCUL and UQAR), the MSc course on Molecular Biology & Genetics (FCUL) and the Biology bachelor (FCUL). I have communicated my scientific findings in 19 conferences (national and international) and delivered a talk at TEDxAveiro 2019. I have been actively involved in 3 national plus 2 international funded projects and I am a reviewer for 20 international journals and one funding agency. I have won three awards including the Research Stimulus Program 2012 (Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian), Ocean Award 2013 (Oceanography Centre, FCUL) and L’Oreal Medals of Honor for Women in Science 2018 (L’Oreal, FCT/UNESCO). As a consequence, my work has been highlighted in >60 media news (newspapers, news online, magazines, radio and TV interviews). I am currently co-supervising two international students (1 MSc, 1 PhD) and have another MSc completed supervision (2019). My major achievements include 32 research articles (17 in the past 5 years) published in indexed international top-ranked journals (Q1) with peer review (Scopus H-index 15, 729 citations), one book chapter and 2 individual grants funded.
