Currently I hold a Junior Researcher position at the NOVA University of Lisbon- School of Science and Technology, since I was awarded with the postdoctoral Stimulus of Scientific Employment, Individual Support 2018 grant (CEECIND/02199/2018) starting September 2020. I am hosted by the GeoBioCiências, GeoTecnologias e GeoEngenharias (GeoBioTec) research unit. The main focus of my research is the studyhe macroevolutionary dynamics of the Giraffomorpha. As for my scientific background, after obtaining my BSc. in Biological Sciences I earned an MSc. on Conservation and Evolution of Animal Biodiversity, with a thesis on the multi-isotopic analysis of the paleoecology and paleoclimatology of the Ribesalbes basin at the University of Valencia (Spain). Later that year, I obtained a full-funded predoctoral FPI-MINECO grant for the research project of the fossil site complex of Cerro de Los Batallones (Madrid, Late Miocene) held by the MNCN-CSIC, under the mentoring of Dr. J. Morales. I completed my PhD. in Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology on March 2017, Cum Laude and with International Mention by the University of Valencia. My PhD. was focused on describing the new giraffid from Batallones-10 (Decennatherium rex) as well as the morphological characters sufficient to construct the first quantitative data matrix for the Giraffidae and obtain the first phylogenetic tree of the family based on a Maximum Parsimony Analysis. My entire thesis has been published on SCI international magazines and it has also been presented in several international paleontological conferences. I was also awarded a series of FPI-EEBB scholarships for international stays on the AMNH (New York, USA), the NHM (London, UK) and the MNHN (Paris, France) and had the chance to stablish meaningful collaborations with other scientists, which have resulted in my last submitted publications dealing with new findings on Siwaliks giraffids and in already published works on the metapodial morphology of the Giraffidae. I have also been able to make use of new methods as the use of CT-SCANS for the analysis of the structure of fossil giraffids inner ear and 3D surface scans for the reconstruction of fossil taxa and have a background on paleoenvironemntal reconstruction based on the analysis of the stable isotopes of the enamel of rodent teeth. As my CVN illustrates in detail, I also have a broad range of museum experience and science dissemination and organization of scientific activities. Finally, as for my current and future research lines, besides continuing with the systematic and alpha-taxonomy studies of fossil giraffids, what I am focused on is the study of the macroevolutionary dynamics of Giraffomorpha. Though today is only represented by two living African forms (Okapia and Giraffa), in the last 23 million years the giraffes¿ lineage have held at least 70 different species, very diverse phenotypes, and were widespread throughout all the Old World. With a well-known fossil record and extensive molecular data available, Giraffomorpha makes up a perfect study group for the investigation of macroevolutionary dynamics in the context of endangered lineages. My approach includes the construction of a phylogenetic tree using total-evidence tip-dating techniques and the identification of the causes of giraffes¿ diversification and demise based on extensive fossil and paleo environmental data.
