SANDRA ISABEL RIBEIRO Pereira

Sandra Isabel Ribeiro Pereira is an established researcher in Agricultural and Biological Sciences, holding a PhD in Agricultural Production Chains – From Fork to Farm (2020) from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), where she also obtained a Master’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Biology (2012) and a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics and Biotechnology (2010). She is currently a Junior Researcher at the Centre for the Research and Technology of Agro-Environmental and Biological Sciences (CITAB, UTAD), with a consolidated research trajectory spanning more than a decade. Her scientific expertise lies at the intersection of plant physiology, ecophysiology, biochemistry, and sustainable agronomy, with a strong focus on viticulture, fruit crops, and climate-resilient agricultural systems. She has played an active role as researcher or team member in several nationally and internationally funded projects, including PRR Vine & Wine, ViTex, UVineSafe, NASPA (Interreg Atlantic Area), EUROLEGUME (FP7), and multiple FCT-funded initiatives. These projects address key challenges related to abiotic stress mitigation, biostimulant development, circular valorisation of agricultural residues, and sustainable disease control strategies. Sandra Pereira has a solid scientific output, with 32 peer-reviewed journal articles published (and 4 additional manuscripts under review) in high-impact international journals. Her work has achieved an h-index of 12, reflecting consistent scientific influence. She is also the author of eight technical articles, and four book chapters (including a professional best-practice manual), evidencing her ability to bridge fundamental research and applied innovation. Her dissemination activity is extensive, comprising 24 oral communications, 47 poster presentations, and invited lectures at national and international scientific events. She has received three awards for scientific excellence, including distinctions for best oral presentations and innovation in agriculture, underscoring the relevance and quality of her research contributions. In parallel, she has actively contributed to the scientific community as Guest Editor of multiple Special Issues in internationally indexed journals, and as a peer reviewer for leading journals in plant and agricultural sciences. Sandra Pereira has a strong commitment to training and capacity building, with substantial experience in supervising undergraduate (5), master’s (9), PhD (1) and research grant students (13), including coordination of field and laboratory work. In the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, she served as a Practical Teaching Assistant in Cell Biology for the Bachelor’s programmes in Biochemistry and Genetics and Biotechnology at UTAD. She has also contributed to higher education teaching as a practical teaching assistant and lecturer within international postgraduate programmes, notably the International Master Vintage. Additionally, she has participated in numerous evaluation committees for competitive research grants and scientific recruitment procedures. Her research activities are complemented by extensive outreach and science communication initiatives, particularly within the framework of Ciência Viva, the European Researchers’ Night, and school-based science programmes, reflecting a strong engagement with society and scientific literacy.
