My research is focused on the study of artists' materials, including their historical production, colour stability and the analytical methods used to identify them in heritage objects. It crosses the disciplinary boundaries of technical art history and conservation science aiming to contribute new knowledge that will lead to better conservation and authentication procedures. I was recently awarded a contract for Junior Researcher at LAQV-REQUIMTE R&D unit in the 2020 competitive Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus promoted by FCT (3rd place). I am also a collaborative researcher at VICARTE R&D unit. In 2018, I completed a PhD in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (specialisation in Conservation Science) at NOVA. My PhD work (FCT grant awarded in a competitive call) advanced key knowledge on the 19th c. manufacture and stability of chrome yellow pigments, known to be degrading in treasured artworks such as Van Gogh's Sunflowers. It was the first doctoral work to explore the W&N 19th Century Archive Database proving its unique value. This investigation also benefited from 3 experiments at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (competitive calls), where I also gained experience in SR based techniques. The inclusion of my PhD in the FCT funded project: "Crossing Borders: History, materials and techniques of Portuguese painters from 1850-1918", exposed me to a collaborative environment between art historians, curators, conservators and scientists, which enhanced my interpersonal and multidisciplinary skills. Currently, I have an h-index of 12 (WoS) with 21 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and 713 citations (WoS). In the field of conservation science, I have 4 papers as first author, 4 as corresponding author and 5 as co-author. As an expert in infrared spectroscopy, in collaboration with scientists from Marine and Environmental Sciences, I have 7 papers as co-author, including a Scientific Reports (Nature). I have participated in international conferences with 20 oral and 18 poster communications, having 1 book chapter and 6 published proceedings. I am a reviewer for the scientific journals: Heritage Science, Heritage, Applied Sciences, Materials, Sustainability and Environmental Pollution. Since 2011, I have collaborated with the DCR NOVA in the lecturing of courses such as Analytical Methods for Cultural Heritage and History of Art Technology and Materials, I have co-supervised 1 PhD, 2 MSc theses and several curricular projects, and I am co-supervisor of 1 PhD and 1 MSc theses. Between 2015 and 2017, I worked for the DCR carrying out technical and authentication studies, which allowed me to develop expertise in authenticating artworks by the Portuguese Modern painter Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso (1887-1918). From 2017 to 2019, I was also co-responsible for DCR's analytical infrastructure. I am frequently engaged in knowledge dissemination activities for the general public, on art and science, with emphasis on art forgery (2 magazine papers, 3 invited talks for school students and several workshops). I also participated in 1 TV documentary and 1 documentary film on Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso. My multidisciplinary profile and strong analytical skills have enabled me to collaborate with renowned institutions such as the Van Gogh Museum, the Politecnico di Milano and the IFAC-CNR.
