Samir Zedam

Samir Zedam is a dedicated researcher and educator, he is a PhD student in Education Science at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), and an invited assistant English Language teacher at the Higher School of Education at Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB). He has a solid background in English language and literature, with a Master's degree in Literature and Civilization of Anglo-Saxons in English from the University of Dr. Tahar Moulay in Saida, Algeria (2018), and a Bachelor's degree in Sciences of Language in English from the University of El Hadj Lakhdar Batna, Algeria (2014). Both degrees are officially recognized with a level recognition in Portugal. Samir's experience in research, he successfully completed a traineeship at the High School of Education at Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB) from September 2017 to April 2018, where he explored English language, children's literature, and juvenile literature. He has been actively involved as a volunteer researcher at the Research Centre of Basic Education (CIEB) – IPB- since 2019. In 2022, he received a year-long scholarship for postgraduate research at CIEB, where he focused on critical thinking in basic education and teacher training. His work included conducting systematic literature reviews, analyzing data, and presenting research and publishing articles at national and international conferences, all under the guidance of Prof. Manuel Luis Castanheira and Prof. Cristina Mesquita. After, he persued as a Research Fellow at CIEB, working on a project about "Critical Thinking in Initial Teachers" within the scope of the project “UIDB/05777/2020" funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology. Currently, he got a new research grant from CIEB under the project “Eydigifolio” with funding of “RIK059” for a period of 6 months. His main interest focuses on fostering critical thinking skills in future teachers by piloting a professional training for university teachers using the OECD’s 2023 framework, which based on developing critical thinking in higher education.
