Iniciou actividades letivas na UTAD ainda durante a sua formação em Engenharia Florestal. Desde a defesa do doutoramento até Setembro de 2012 exerceu as funções de Professor Auxiliar, em regime de dedicação exclusiva, no Departamento de Ciências Florestais e Arquitectura Paisagista da Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro; e de Setembro de 2012 a Setembro de 2013 foi Professor Adjunto da Escola de Agronomia da Universidade Federal de Goiás (Brasil), tendo voltado a desempenhas as funções de Professor Auxiliar, em regime de dedicação exclusiva, do Departamento de Ciências Florestais e Arquitectura Paisagista da Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, a partir de Setembro de 2013 à actualidade. Tem concentrado a sua atividade de investigação envolvendo-se em projectos de investigação e apoio a estruturas florestais, designadamente na temática das alterações climáticas, da quantificação de carbono fixado por ecossistemas florestais, no estudo da importância dos ecossistemas florestais num contexto de alterações climáticas, no estudo e monitorização de florestas mistas em Portugal, bem como no apoio a inventários de Associações de Produtores Florestais, no apoio a projectos lançados pela Autoridade Florestal Nacional na criação de metodologias expeditas de quantificação da produção primária líquida da floresta em Portugal, entre outros. Muitos destes projectos são executados em contacto íntimo com outros grupos internacionais, onde se destacam as Universidades Autónoma da Barcelona, em Espanha; Universidade do País Basco, em Espanha; Universidade de Oviedo, em Espanha; Universidade de Wisconsin, nos Estados Unidos da América; e Universidade de Oregon, nos Estados Unidos da América.
