Manuel António do Rosário Pouso completed his BSc in Biomedical Sciences in 2019 from UBI. In 2022 he completed his MSc in Biochemistry from the same university, with the master's thesis "Effect of retinoic acid on stroke. Relationship between neurons, astrocytes and vascular smooth muscle". During his MSc dissertation, he developed multiple laboratorial skills such as isolation of rodents’ cells and arteries, vascular contractility experiments, molecular biology techniques and molecular docking simulations. After an international legal proceeding, he was selected to be hired as a Research Fellow to develop activities in the GRAPHY project: “Thiol-ene click injectable in situ forming hydrogels incorporating graphene: optimization of the polymer-related features for the immuno-photothermal therapy of metastatic breast cancer” (2022.06320.PTDC). Currently, he is a PhD student in Biomedicine from UBI with a FCT fellowship (REF: 2024.04190.BD). His main areas of interest are Health Sciences and Medical Biotechnology. His research work focuses on the production and modification of polymer-based materials; the development of injectable hydrogels for application in photothermal cancer therapy; and the physicochemical and biological characterization of nanomaterials. He published 3 articles in international peer-reviewed journals and also co-supervised 3 undergraduate students on their final BSc projects on the topic of injectable hydrogels. Currently he is co-supervising a MSc student in the completion of his thesis.
