João Alves Pinto obtained his PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. He is a Research Technician for the Area of Bio-Based Products and Processes inspired in Mountain Context at Collaborative Laboratory Mountains of Research (MORE), where he is responsible for preparing proposals and projects, attracting funding, managing research initiatives, overseeing technical services, and strengthening the link between universities and industry. He has published 7 articles in specialized journals and presented 18 communications in scientific conferences. He has organized 4 scientific events, secured competitive funding as a researcher in 6 research projects and 2 as a research fellow, and collaborated with multiple co-authors in scientific works. His research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of polymeric materials, with a special emphasis on materials derived from renewable resources, including the production of bio-based polyols and their application as macromonomers in the synthesis of polyurethanes and polyesters. He has also developed strong expertise in process engineering and scale-up, with a focus on optimizing processes for industrial applications. His work encompasses the design, development, and optimization of chemical and biochemical processes, ensuring efficiency, sustainability, and feasibility for large-scale production. His expertise extends to Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Scale-Up Strategies, Advanced Characterization of by-products and biomaterials, and Natural Products. Throughout his academic career, he has participated in international research mobilities at the Opole University of Technology (Poland) and LANOTEC - CeNAT Centro Nacional de Alta Tecnología (Costa Rica), focusing on biomass characterization and valorization.
