My name is Ana Catarina Paulino do Ó Vinhas. I am a fifth-year medical student at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Algarve. I hold a BSc in Biomedical Sciences from the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Medicine of the University of Algarve, completed with a final grade of 17, and a MSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra. During my scond year of my MSc degree I developed my MSc thesis entitled "Impact of human iPSC-derived NESC transplantation in MJD-associated neuropathology and motor impairments", developed in the Vectors, Gene and Cell Therapy group of the Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC), University of Coimbra, headed by Professor Luís Pereira de Almeida, under the supervision of Doctor Liliana Mendonça and Professor Carlos Duarte. In this work, I investigated the potential of human-induced pluripotent stem cells derived neuroepithelial stem cells to be used as a cell source for cell replacement strategies in neurodegenerative diseases, namely Machado-Joseph Disease, and I acquired skills in cell culture, in vitro and in vivo cellular characterization, gene and cell therapy, molecular biology techniques, and in vivo experiments. Additionally, I'm a co-author of 1 oral communication and 1 poster presentation.
