I obtained my BSc in Biology in 2004 at Univ. Lisbon (Portugal), my MSc in 2007 and PhD in 2012 both at the Univ. Porto (Portugal). In 2013, I became a postdoc fellow at BIOPOLIS-CIBIO, in 2014 I obtained a FCT Post-doc grant, and since 2019 I am an independent auxiliary researcher at BIOPOLIS-CIBIO under the DL57 law article. In total, I have 53 published research articles. This year alone (2024), I have 5 “Published/Accepted” papers, and other 5 “Submitted/Under Review”, making a total of 58 scientific publications. Although my main research taxonomical group is reptiles, over the last 5 years (22 published studies), most of my work has been published in Q1 “non-specialist” journals (82%). As a multidisciplinary scientist, my research is obviously published in a panoply of journals related to different subjects such as, Evolutionary Biology (e.g., Scientific Reports, Biodiversity and Conservation, and Journal of Biogeography), Physiology (e.g., Journal of Experimental Zoology Part A, and Journal of Thermal Biology), or Ecology (e.g., Global Ecology and Conservation, Biological Invasions, and Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution). On most of these publications, I am either first, senior and/or corresponding author (86%). Full publications available on my website (https://catirato.wixsite.com/catarinarato) and metrics available here (https://scholar.google.pt/citations?user=2G1UzvQAAAAJ&hl=en). I have participated in 18 research projects (6 since 2019), ever since I was an undergraduate student (total budget > €1M). In 4 of these projects, I was the Principal Investigator. I have been awarded with €131k of salary grants, €230k as a PI, and €1 million as team member. My main research has been funded by FCT projects as a PI in 2017 and 2018, but I’ve also obtained international funding from the UK and Morocco. I have so far supervised 1 post-doc, 1 PhD starting in 2024, 6 MSc thesis (4 concluded at Uni. Porto and Uni. Évora; 2 ongoing from ICBAS and Univ. Porto), 1 undergraduate student (concluded in Uni. Porto), 2 Erasmus (Poland and Slovenia), 1 scientific initiation (France), and 1 EU Youth Guarantee Contract (Italy). I have been part of the organizing committee of 3 international conferences, 2 of them (2013 and 2019) focused on the latest advances on the study of Biodiversity and Evolution (TiBE), and the other one was the European Congress of Herpetology held in Porto (2007). This year (June 2024), I organized the International Symposium on Mediterranean Lacertid Lizards, which took place in Madeira Island. I have also been invited to be part of the scientific committee of 3 conferences, the TiBE (2013), the Iberian Congress of Herpetology (2023), and the International Symposium on Mediterranean Lacertid Lizards (2024). I am also the referee of >20 peer-review journals, having conducted a total of 44 reviews (23 in the past 5 years) for high impact journals, such as Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, Global Ecology and Conservation, Journal of Biogeography, Molecular Ecology, Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, and the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. Since 2016, I am the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Basic and Applied Herpetology and in 2022 I was invited as Editor Review of Frontiers in Amphibian and Reptile Science. Also, as a recognition of my scientific merit I have been invited to be the jury of 4 MSc thesis defences, and 3 PhDs. Both mobility and capacity to create several collaborations have allowed me to establish my research with many national and international contacts, and that is reflected by the co-authors of my publications, with over 245 collaborators on scientific papers, with nationalities extending across Europe, Macaronesia and North Africa.
