Graduated in Applied Biology in 2011, Alexandra specialized in nanosystems for drug delivery in the Master's Degree in Biophysics and Bionanosystems, both in University of Minho. Over the following two and a half years, Alexandra collaborated in two research projects, one at the University of Porto (INEB), and the other at the University of Minho (CEB). With a Ph. D. in Biomedical Engineering (CEB, 2023), Alexandra has published 9 articles, 1 book chapter, and 1 patent in the biomedical field. Alexandra has experience in: 1) production and physicochemical characterization of biomaterials; 2) bionanoconjugates and biosensors; 3) nanoencapsulation of antimicrobial bioactives in micellar, polymeric, liposomal and hydrogel structures; 4) microbiology, with a focus on antimicrobial assays; and 5) comprehensive characterization of biocompatibility, including cytotoxicity, intracellular localization and biodistribution. Alexandra has currently two years of post-doctoral experience (fev 2023 - now) in the field of ¿¿agriculture at InnovPlantProtect, particularly in the development of nano and microencapsulation systems for bioprotectants and/or biostimulants, stabilization and shelf-life extension of agricultural formulations. Alexandra extended her experience in microbiology to growth inhibition tests of pathogenic bacteria and fungi of relevance in agriculture. Alexandra has 1 published patent in this area (WO2024/018434 A1). As a Ph. D. researcher, Alexandra is currently working within the scope of the Blue Bioeconomy Pact Agenda (Vertical Algae, subproject 6).
