In 2011, I received my PhD degree by University of Vigo (Spain) with a ¿cum laude¿ distinction by unanimity being awarded an Extraordinary Prize. Since the completion of my PhD, my research activities were interrupted by two maternity leaves (2014 and 2017). I started my Post-Doc research funded by FCT (2012-2015) and I2C-Xunta de Galicia (2015-2016) fellowships at the Centre of Biological Engineering (University of Minho-UM) in the areas of Biotechnology Applied and Microbiology, Energy and Fuels and Environmental Sciences. In September 2016, I started an Auxiliary Researcher position at UM within the project BioTecNorte as responsible for the research line: Bio-factory- Biotechnology as a key enabling technology for new processes, products and resource recovery. During this period, I have contributed to the knowledge for the development and intensification of integrated lignocellulosic biorefinery working in the following 3 areas, where I have participated in the supervision, design and performance of experiments and contributed in the manuscript writing and scientific discussion of works. 1. Exploring eco-friendly pretreatments for biomass fractionation: 22 papers +2 PhD theses +2 MSc theses 2. Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation optimization to produce ethanol and other value-added compounds: 13 papers+ 2 MSc theses + 1 PhD thesis 3. Yeast strain improvement: 9 papers +1 PhD thesis +1 MSc thesis In the last 5 years, I have demonstrated a high scientific production with 6 publications/year, supervision of MSc students and participated in dissemination activities. I have also acquired management skills as PI of 2 projects oriented to younger researchers and demonstrated autonomous research with the publication of 25 SCI-papers independently of my PhD supervisors. I am collaborating with Silvestre´s research group (UAveiro) in the evaluation of deep eutectic solvents for the valorization of Eucalyptus biomass within the Multibiorefinery project (SAICTPAC/0040/2015). In 2018, we established a collaboration with A. Kondo´s research group (Kobe University, Japan) for the development of recombinant industrial Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains as biocatalysts by cell-surface display of heterologous enzymes to use on consolidated lignocellulosic bioprocesses. In March 2019, I spent 2 months in the group of Sustainable Separation Process (USC) to evaluate ionic liquid as biomass pretreatment of biomass. I was involved in the elaboration of BioVino project, recently proposed to be financed by INTERREG Spain-Portugal (POCTEP). Overall, my scientific production is summarized in 61 peer-reviewed papers, 6 book chapters and 71 conferences. 53 papers (87%) were published in JCR Q1 journals, 33 of them (62%) in top 10%, with an impact factor average of 5.45. I am 1st, 2nd, corresponding and last author in 21, 20, 12 and 3 of these publications, respectively. Some papers were published in collaboration with researchers from international institutions. I have been involved in 15 financed projects (>4.5 M€), being Principal Investigator in 2 of them. I have been awarded 5 fellowships in competitive calls. My h-index is 23 with over 1500 citations. I have supervised 5 PhD theses, 5 MSc and 2 undergraduate students. I have teaching experience in degree and postgraduate courses and I got the I3 accreditation. Long-term objective of my scientific career is to advance in searching greener and smarter solutions to achieve a circular economy focusing on the integration of lignocellulose and seaweed biorefineries using sustainable and eco-friendly processes.
