Francisco Gírio, PhD, is Principal Researcher and Head of Bioenergy and Biorrefineries Unit of LNEG-National Laboratory of Energy and Geology, Lisbon, Portugal since 2009. In his research career participated as researcher in more than 74 research projects on lignocellulose bioconversion being General Coordinator or Team Coordinator of 38 projects. He is President of Board of CoLAB BIOREF. He was member of the Management Board of Bioenergy Joint Program of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA-Bioenergy) between 2011 and 2022, and currently is member of the Steering Committee of the European Technology and Innovation Platform on Bioenergy (ETIP-Bioenergy), and also Vice-Chair of the WG2 of ETIP-Bioenergy. He is member of the Scientific Council and Board of Trustees of the Spanish Institute IMDEA Energy (Spain) and President of SIADEB - Iberoamerican Society for the Development of Biorefineries. He did publish over than 100 scientific papers and more than 200 papers and lectures in international conferences.
