Margarida Inês Madeira Esteves has a bachelor's degree in Medicinal Chemistry and in 2018 completed a master's degree in Chemistry with specialization in Advanced and Industrial Chemistry, finishing with a grade of 17 values, at the University of Coimbra, with the presentation of the research work carried out in a dissertation entitled "Síntese de Espiro-gama-Lactamas Quirais derivadas da L-Cisteína" (classification 18 points). This scientific project allowed the presentation of two panel communications, one of which was distinguished with the Award for Best Communication for conference poster in the area of Organic Chemistry, an oral communication, and the publication of a scientific paper "Spiro-Lactams as Novel Antimicrobial Agents" in 2020. Additionally, in 2020, the grade obtained in the master's degree granted the award "Prémio Professor António Jorge Andrade de Gouveia" for best classification of the master's courses of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Coimbra 2017/18. Since December 2018, have been a research fellow in the Colloid Chemistry group of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Coimbra, whereas was selected to work on the R&D co-promotion project with the title "EcoX - Reciclagem de gorduras alimentares através da Química Verde". This project was financed with 1 million euros which had an excellent evaluation by ANI ("Agência Nacional de Inovação"), and it is inserted in the area of colloidal systems with a focus on the application of proteins for the preparation of surfactant compounds. Within this project, mentoring/tutoring opportunities enabled the follow-up of 3 master thesis students, in which two of them concluded with great grades in the end of 2020. Additionally, it was published a scientific paper "Effect of Protein Flexibility from Coarse-Grained Elastic Network Parameterizations on the Calculation of Free Energy Profiles of Ligand Binding" in 2020, and allowed the presentation of two panel communications at an international conference, the "10th International Colloids Conference 2020". Furthermore, in 2021, one panel communication was presented and a scientific paper "Dancing with oils - The interaction of lipases with different oil/water interfaces" was submitted. In the past 2 years, her knowledge in Colloidal Chemistry has been improving, as well her know-how about an extensive variety of techniques, such as rheology, tensiometry, and dynamic light scattering.
