Inês Morão holds a MSc in Biotechnology of Marine Resources and is currently a research fellow at the Polytechnic of Leiria. In the last year of her BSc, she traveled to São Tomé where she had the first contact with sea turtles. During this period, she assisted the NGOs MARAPA and Tatô Program in actions to raise awareness and conservation of sea turtles in their spawning areas. Later on, she returned to carry out a study for her MSc thesis, where this time she sampled turtles’ tissues for further molecular work, aiming to measure the contamination of metals in these sea turtle populations and their impacts in their fitness.
