Débora Alexandra Reste Ferreira obtained her Bachelor's Degree in 2016/07 and her Master degree in 2018/10 both in Biochemistry at the University of Beira Interior. She developed her MSc research project in the field of Neurosciences under the supervision of Prof. Doctor Graça Baltazar at the CICS- University of Beira Interior. This project aimed at disclosing the role of the STEP in the control of neuroinflammation. Then, she became a Research Fellow in 2019/02- 2020/12, under a Centro 2020 Project entitled Interdisciplinary Challenges in Neurodegeneration (CENTRO-01-0145-FEDER-000013), ICON-BIM-04C, in the field of Neuroimmunology, under the supervision of Prof. Doctor Fernando A. Arosa and Prof. Doctor Elsa M. Cardoso, where her objective is to identify biomarkers through the phenotypic and functional study of immunological cells of the elderly and with neurodegenerative diseases population of Beira Interior (EBIcohort). She collaborated with the different researchers of the multidisciplinary team and also demonstrated broad autonomy for the analysis of scientific data. Then, she applied for a Doctoral Incentive Fellowship (BID/ICI-FCS/CICS/Santander Universidades-UBI/2020), which was awarded to her, based in neuroimmune crosstalk. In 2021/07- 2022/02, she became a Research Fellow in C4 - Cloud Computing Competence Centre (C4-UBI), C4_WP3.4_M1, under the supervision of Prof. Doctor Noel Lopes and Prof. Doctor Elsa M.Cardoso, to develop machine learning algorithms to detect disease risk factors, namely methods supervised and unsupervised for identification of cell populations and correlate with cognitive status. In 2022/09 she became a Biostatistician in Association for Innovation and Biomedical Research on Light and Image (AIBILI - Coimbra) in Diabetic Retinopathy Research Group. She collaborated with the multidisciplinary team (ophthalmologists, orthoptists, clinical team, project managers, engineers, data managers and other team members) and also demonstrated broad autonomy for the analysis of scientific data. Throughout the performance, she gained experience in applying concepts and methodologies in the planning of laboratory and clinical studies, as well as in the collection and statistical analysis of data from these studies; to delve into data analysis or use machine learning using a programming language (R, Python and Stata). Considering lab experience, she was autonomous in multidisciplinary skills: primary rat cell culture, immunocytochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, protein extraction and quantification, Western blot analysis, RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, conventional PCR, real-time PCR, relative quantity and normalized expression, flow cytometry, isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells, magnetic beads cell isolation, ELISA assays, and immunoprecipitation. Considering Biostatistician experience, she are responsible for the creation, review, maintenance and oversight off contracted statistical output and activities in diabetic retinopathy group. Published 7 articles in journals.
