I hold a Licenciatura degree in Biochemistry (2007) and a Master's in Cellular Biology and Biotechnology (2011) from the University of Lisbon. In 2022, I completed a Ph.D. in Plant Sciences from Nova University of Lisbon, focused on the metabolomic characterization of maritime pine responses to pinewood nematode infection. This work was part of the breeding program for maritime pine resistance to pinewood nematode infection, in close collaboration with the National Institute for Agrarian and Veterinary Sciences (INIAV). Throughout my scientific career, I have specialized in Metabolomics, particularly in plant and food metabolomics, using mass spectrometry-based approaches. To date, I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica (iBET), within the Sustainability for Food & Health Division. My work centers on the analytical characterization of natural products, bioactives, and food contaminants. I'm currently involved in several national and international research projects, namely the VIIAFOOD - Platform for the Agri-Food valorisation, industrialization and Commercial Innovation Agenda (1.8M EUR) for characterization of olive oil by-products and food contaminants (MOSH and MOAH), and TRACE-RICE, a PRIMA project dedicated to the improve the traceability and authenticity of Mediterranean rice varieties. To date, I've published 23 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 3 conference papers, and 4 book chapters (h-index 14; citations 388). I've received 4 awards and/or honors and contributed with 34 national and international congress presentations, 6 of them oral. I have successfully supervised one BSc student (18/20) and one MSc student (20/20), and I am currently supervising two MSc students. Plants (2022): High-throughput omics technologies have revolutionized the way science is performed, by generating a large amount of biological data for a broader coverage and better understanding of biological mechanisms. The integration of these omics technologies (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, ionomics, and redoxomics) is currently in the forefront of plant research. As sessile organisms, plants are constantly challenged by environmental stress conditions and resort on adaptative responses to ensure survival and reproductive success. These environmental stress conditions include abiotic and biotic stress factors that often occur simultaneously in field conditions. A multi-omics approach allows understanding the biochemical mechanisms that underly plant resistance and response to adverse environmental conditions, from genotype to phenotype. This includes the integration of multi-omics data into biological networks for the identification of stress responsive traits that can be further applied towards plant breeding, and more productive and climate resilient crop varieties. This special issue is dedicated to omic approaches using state-of-the-art high-throughput equipment to explore plant responses to environmental stress conditions. In an environment that is rapidly changing, particularly in the current climate change scenario, manuscripts dedicated to improving our understanding of plant responses to single or combined environmental stress are welcome..
