Áurea Cristina Martins Narciso

Áurea Narciso has a degree in the scientific branch of Geology, and holds a Master in Dynamic Geology (2002) and a PhD in Paleontology and Stratigraphy (2007), from the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon. Since 2012, and due to the experience as a researcher scientist at the Center of Climate, Meteorology and Global Changes of the University of the Azores, she has been expanding her knowledge, always using coccolithophores, in topics of biological sciences, focusing in areas like marine productivity, plankton community structure and algae cultures. Currently, the main line of her research concerns the ecology and biodiversity of the referred phytoplankton group off islands and seamounts of Macaronesia. The impact of shallow-water hydrothermal vents in coccolithophore community is another of her interests. At present Áurea Narciso is a postdoctoral researcher at CIIMAR, developing her work at the Marine Biology Station of Funchal, with funding provided by the Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation. She has published several publications in specialized journals and participated in more than 15 conferences. She has supervised one PhD thesis and several young scientists in their lab works. She has also been invited to be jury of several master thesis. She has experience in organizing events and conferences. She has integrated several oceanographic cruises; to highlight the M150 (BIODIAZ project) and BIOMETORE campaigns, realized in the Macaronesian region, where her studies have been focused.
