Since my PhD, the main focus of my research has been in the fields of human genetics, molecular and developmental biology (mainly cardiac) and disease modeling using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Using these multidisciplinary areas, and coordinated with some hospital institutions, I develop a project to find genetic alterations in cardiac patients and to modulate the consequence of those findings. As a result, I have strong expertise in planning with doctors, tissue and cell culture, molecular biology techniques, functional analysis, sequencing analysis, PCR, histology and microscopy. In the 3 last year, I was engaged to generate, expand and freeze, patients iPS cell lines, Moreover, I gained expertise in iPSCs handling, functionally characterization, differentiation, qPCR, and microscopy techniques. I generate DAND5 KO and isogenic iPSC lines by CRISPR/Cas9 technology and successfully differentiate all the cells to a cardiomyocyte lineage to understand the impact of DAND5 in the proliferation of those cells. Lately, I was also the PostDoc responsible for running the transcriptomic translational research of a granted project aimed to the development of evidence-based therapeutic strategies directed at heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). I have been a guest lecturer at Universidade do Algarve and Nova Medical School, where I lectured about animal models, cells culture, developmental biology, genetics of human disease, iPS cells and translational medicine. Moreover, I was awarded an Honorable mention by the Portuguese Society of Human Genetics in a meeting of the society. Moreover, my scientific knowledge, experience and criticism gave the opportunity to be evolved in the writing of national and international funded scientific grants, articles for publication in international journals and worked as a reviewer for some journals in the area of human genetics.
