Currently, I am a PhD student at the University of the Azores, with a multidisciplinary background in environmental sciences and disaster management. My academic foundation includes one Bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Development and two Master’s degrees: the first in Environmental Science and Management (2021) and an advanced Master’s in Risks and Natural Disasters Management (2022). Following the completion of my academic degrees in Belgium and conservation internships in Malta, I moved to the Azores to join the Azorean Biodiversity Group (GBA-cE3c). For two years, I worked as a laboratory technician at the University of the Azores. During this period, I contributed to the creation of species databases, developed DNA barcoding protocols for arthropods, and co-authored several scientific articles in the Biodiversity Data Journal. Building on this professional experience, I have now transitioned into the PhD program in Interdisciplinary Management of Landscape at the University of the Azores. My current research focuses on seabird conservation, including the threats in the nesting sites of Cory’s Shearwaters. I remain deeply committed to science communication, publishing in science magazines and organizing with other institutions the SOS Cagarro brigades in Angra do Heroísmo.

LIFE SNAILS Project (Santa Maria, Azores) supported habitat restoration for three critically endangered endemic mollusks (Oxychilus agostinhoi, Leptaxis minor, Plutonia angulosa). Contributed to long-term biodiversity monitoring using SLAM traps, documenting over 220 arthropod taxa (including 29 endemic species) as indicators of habitat quality. The technical note aimed to assess habitat integrit. 2025. Parmentier, Laurine; Borges, PAV; Lhoumeau, Sébastien; Leite, Abrão; Vounatsi, Martha; Wallon, Sophie.

2025/10/15 - 2025/11/15 With NGOs, local organizations, and other partners, I contributed to the SOS Cagarro 2025 campaign in the Azores, and more specifically in Angra do Heroísmo (Terceira). During the peak fallout season (October–November), we organized night patrols to rescue stranded Cory’s shearwaters (Calonectris borealis), which are highly disoriented by artificial lights during their first migratory flight. Rescued birds were delivered to the Vigilantes da Natureza, who recorded biometric data, applied identification rings, and released them back into the wild. (2025/10 - 2025/11)

2026/03 - 2026/03 A webinar about the common buzzard / milhafre (Buteo buteo rothschildi) was organized by SPEA on the 13th of March 2026. The goal was to teach to the participants how important this endemic species is, and to teach how to do the census for that species and the methodology to implement. On the 20th and 21th of March, volunteers in Açores and Madeira completed the census in different islands in a joined effort.

2024/05/22 - 2024/05/22 I participated to a science communication event for the Global Day of Biodiversity in Angra do Heroismo (on the demand of the Câmara Municipal). The aim of the event was to teach the participants more about the biodiversity of the Azores thanks to mini-games. The event was directed towards the general public (that included kids, adults, locals and tourists). I was responsible of the game "Onde fica?", that I animated both in English and Portuguese.

2023/10 - 2023/11 I participated to the volunteer patrolls that were organized for SOS Cagarro 2023. This campaign has two main goals: raising awareness about the Cory's shearwater and contributing to the conservation of this species. The organisation of the campaign and patrolls coincides with the first flight of the juveniles out of the nest, as sometimes they need to be rescued.
