Ana Estanqueiro (AE) holds a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Energy specialization) and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Her academic training focused on the deployment of renewable energy technologies and on the assessment and mitigation of their impacts on electrical power systems. She later obtained a Habilitation in Sustainable Energy Systems, based on research addressing the challenges of the energy transition in Portugal and the contribution of time-varying renewable sources to power systems approaching 100% renewable electricity. AE is a Coordinator Researcher at the National Laboratory of Energy and Geology (LNEG), where she developed most of her professional career in renewable energy and power system integration. In parallel, she is an Invited Full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, contributing to undergraduate and graduate teaching in energy systems with high shares of renewable energy, including electrical networks, wind energy, and renewable energy integration. Her academic activity includes course coordination and lecturing, supervision of MSc and PhD students, and supervision of postdoctoral researchers. Her professional activity has been centered on research, development, and technical-scientific support related to the integration of variable renewable energy sources into electrical power systems. AE has worked on power system modelling, planning, and operation, flexibility assessment, and the interaction between renewable generation, electrical grids, and electricity markets. This work has been conducted in close collaboration with transmission and distribution system operators, public authorities, and industrial stakeholders, ensuring strong alignment between scientific research and real-world system needs. At the international level, AE has been actively involved in strategic and expert groups related to energy research and policy, notably within the IEA Wind Technology Collaboration Programme, which she served as Chair, and the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA), among others. In these contexts, she contributed to the development of technical guidelines, research roadmaps, and coordinated research activities supporting the deployment of renewable energy technologies and the energy transition. Throughout her career, AE has directed, coordinated, and established several R&D units at LNEG. She currently coordinates the scientific area of Integration of Renewable Generation in Energy Systems, consolidating interdisciplinary research across renewable technologies, system operation, and market design. Overall, her education and professional trajectory demonstrate a consistent and coherent focus on the scientific and technical challenges of renewable energy integration, combining engineering expertise, advanced modelling, and applied research within national and international frameworks.
