Anouk Ferreira de Freitas Baptista Duque Pascoal dos Santos

I graduated in Microbiology from Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, Universidade Católica Portuguesa (ESB-UCP), Portugal, in 2003. After working in industry for 3 years, I returned to academia as a researcher. I completed my Ph.D. in Biotechnology, with specialization in Environmental Sciences and Engineering, in 2012 at Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, Universidade Católica Portuguesa. During my Ph.D., I was at Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands, as an invited researcher in the scope of the European Project INNOWATECH for 11 months. After my Ph.D., I started my post-doctoral project at REQUIMTE-Unidade de Ciências Biomoleculares Aplicadas, NOVA School of Science and Technology, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (FCT-UNL), Portugal, under the topic "Waste treatment and valorization through polyhydroxyalkanoates production". During this period, I established collaborations with: ESB-UCP, Super Bock Bebidas - a beverages company, Logoplaste - a plastic packaging company, and The Navigator - a pulp and paper company. Since 2018, I started my own research line focused on industrial waste valorization through organic acids and biopolymers production, where I obtained 1 Project Grant as PI (Beer2BioPol - PTDC/BTA-BTA/31746/2017). Currently, I am an active collaborator in the European project AgriLoop. I published 2 book chapters and 29 papers (8 as first author and 8 as corresponding author) in high level, peer-reviewed scientific journals (more than 85% published in Q1). I have also contributed to more than 35 conference communications. I supervised 2 Ph.D. students (1 ongoing), 7 junior researchers, 1 international internship student and 7 M.Sc. students. I was a jury member for 4 Master thesis, an evaluator for the research program of Poland and reviewed for more than 10 scientific journals. I was guest Editor for the Special Issue "Bioremediation of Wastewater for Reutilization" for International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. During my career, I contributed to 12 research projects, including 7 European projects. Domains of specialization: (1) Biopolymers; (2) Bioreactors; (3) Microbiology; (4) Biodegradation; (5) Microbial population dynamics. My current research interests are (1) Waste valorization; (2)Advanced monitoring tools ; (3) Green advanced extraction methods ; (4) Biopolymer production; (5) Metabolic modelling; (6) Wastewater treatment; (7) Microbial ecology and diversity.
