Ana Rita has a BSc degree in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and completed her MSc degree in Neurosciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon. During her MSc thesis, Ana Rita collaborated on a project funded by FCT (Development of an autologous exosome-based therapy by engineering microRNAs in microglia and motor neurons using mice and human models of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and contributed to the production of a scientific paper, as well as oral and poster communications at national and international conference meetings. Subsequently, she worked as a Research Technician at the Champalimaud Foundation, where she was involved in a project funded by an ERC (LOCOLEARN - Cerebellar circuits for locomotor learning in space and time). Her interest about machine learning, artificial intelligence and computational Science also led her to enroll in a new MSc course - Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at NOVA School of Science and Technology, where she took the curricular year to have a more formal background in these state-of-art topics. Currently, she is a PhD candidate at the Neurogenetics of Locomotion lab in NOVA Medical School, working on an FCT-funded project that aims to understand the molecular mechanisms, genes and brain circuits underlying motor recovery after amputation.
