Mário Gouveia Moniz is a Ph.D. candidate in Musicology, specialising in Music Teaching and Psychology of Music, at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa – Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas. His doctoral research examines the relationship between music education, phonological awareness, and rhythmic imitation in early childhood, particularly among children aged 4 to 6. He holds a degree in Musicology from Universidade NOVA de Lisboa – Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, a postgraduate qualification in Educational Training for Music Teaching, and a master’s degree in Cultural Practices for Municipalities from the same institution. He also completed the Early Childhood Music Professional Development Course – Level 1 at The Gordon Institute for Music Learning (Philadelphia). Since 2007, he has worked as a music teacher, developing educational and artistic projects with children and young people. His academic and pedagogical interests include music education, psychology of music, early childhood music education, phonological awareness, musical rhythm, emergent literacy, and the relationship between music and language. Alongside his academic and teaching activity, he has developed artistic work centred on music theatre and artistic creation for childhood, mainly through project-based collaborations and original creations. He is a founding member of Musiquim – Associação Musicoteatral dos Açores and has created or participated in several artistic projects for children, including Música Bebé, Du-Dé-Du, O Sonho do Miguel, IMPROMPTU, and +MARe.
