António José Pereira Mendes Roque

I am a researcher at LNEC, currently Senior Researcher with Habilitation and Coordinator of the Operational Unit for Waste and Contaminated Soils in Geotechnics (UGeoAmb), having been responsible for its installation in 2004. UGeoAmb is a testing laboratory, integrated within the organizational structure of LNEC – Testing and Metrology. I have obtained a degree in Geological Engineering (University of Coimbra), MSc in Engineering Geology (NOVA University Lisbon) and a PhD (2001) in Civil Engineering – Soils (INSA de Lyon, France). Over the past two decades, I have realized research and innovation work in the field of Environmental Geotechnics at the Geotechnics Department of LNEC, focusing on the containment capacity of contaminants using natural materials, and more recently concentrating on soil–bentonite mixtures used in subsurface vertical barriers, as well as on the remediation of environmental liabilities and the reuse and recycling of waste in geotechnical works. I have participated in nine projects with national or international funding and in thirteen LNEC research projects. I am author or co-author of more than 175 scientific publications.
