Inês Órfão completed a PhD in Biology (speciality Ethology) in 2018 by the University of Lisbon with a thesis deserving of distinction and experimental studies performed in the esteemed institution of the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Completed a 2-year postdoc at the MARE - Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, funded by Madeira's Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology & Innovation. Before, completed an MSc in Ecology and Environmental Management in 2008 and a BSc in Environmental Biology in 2006 by the University of Lisbon. With a career mainly focused on research, has experience as a science manager, group leadership and management, and outreach communication. Main research areas are ecology, conservation and evolutionary biology, with recent emphasis on the conservation of the European eel and insular freshwater ecosystems. Published ten scientific manuscripts (seven as first-author). Showcased work in 13 oral presentations and 15 poster sessions at 14 international and 11 national conferences. Published one book chapter on animal behaviour. Reviewed manuscripts in diversified scientific journals (e.g., Animal Behaviour, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, Journal of Fish Biology. Supervised graduate and master students in international and national programs and accepted the invitation to be a Professor of Human Evolution and Behaviour at the University of Madeira. Co-organized several events, including two national conferences and one international conference. Long experience in organizing and performing outreach activities and engaging with stakeholders engagement, having contributed to science dissemination to the local community in more than 22 presentations in the last three years, eight interviews for radio, television and a podcast. Contributed to technical reports.
