Vitor Fernando Crespim Sousa, born in 1994 in Porto, Portugal, is a PhD Student at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP). He graduated in Mechanical Engineering in the School of Engineering, Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP) in 2017, having got a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, in Materials and Manufacturing Technologies, in ISEP, in 2019. His master’s Dissertation was awarded maximum classification, with the work presented being performed in machining and the study of wear sustained by coated machining tools. During his master’s degree, Vitor Sousa was awarded a researcher grant, being associated with Project ON-SURF, focused primarily on the study of cutting behavior of coated tools, used for machining various metallic alloys, having been associated with further projects where his expertise would prove to be useful. Vitor Sousa is, now, enrolled in the Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering (PRODEM), in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), also being awarded with a MPP PhD fellowship research grant. He has participated, as author and coauthor, in a total of 27 scientific articles, already published in international journals. He has also participated in the writing of 3 published conference articles and 9 book sections. Vitor Sousa as a total of 7 conference presentations, both national (Portugal and international), made about the machining of various alloys using coated tools. His main research interests are focused on the machining processes, mostly on hard-to-machine materials, using coated tools. More precisely, the machining of Nickel based alloys, such as Inconel 718.
