Pedro Pousão-Ferreira is a biologist and Principal Researcher with Habilitation of the research career of the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), specialized in Marine Aquaculture. He is responsible for the Olhão Pilot Fish Farming Station and has more than 35 years of experience in the area of reproduction, larval development, nutrition, fattening and pilot production of sea bass, sea bream, sole, corvina, groupers, sardines and other 6 species of sparids (bream and snapper), in production in earthen tanks, intensive fiberglass tanks, cement and in open sea cages. He has participated in 119 national and international projects and has been responsible for 45. He has been a professor since 2000 of the Aquatic Production Systems and Aquaculture chair in the Aquaculture and Fisheries master's degree at ICBAS/UP and was a professor of the Aquaculture and Larviculture chains in the Marine Biology and Aquaculture and Fisheries master's degrees at the University of Algarve (2011, 2012 and 2013). He supervises/supervised numerous professional internships, aquaculture technician fellowships, aquaculture research fellowships, numerous bachelor, master and doctoral theses and post-doctoral fellowships. He has published 236 articles indexed in the Science Citation Index, of which 167 in the last 10 years and 131 since 2018, 8 books/book chapters, of which 4 since 2018, 34 peer-reviewed short papers, 8 dissemination articles, of which 2 since 2018, 4 technical reports, 614 posters and congress communications, of which 311 since 2018. He is part of the expert panel of the National Innovation Agency (ANI) and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Member of the expert panel - External Scientific Review Panel (ESRP) of AKDN - for monitoring projects, from the 1st call and the 2nd call, of the Aga Khan Foundation. He is a member of international working groups in the field of aquaculture such as ICES and EFARO (organization of state laboratories). He is certified as Researcher-Coordinator for animal experimentation according to the Portuguese Animal Welfare Law, equivalent to FELASA Category C. He is currently President of the Scientific Council of IPMA and was President of the Forum of Scientific Councils of State Laboratories (June 2020-December 2021). He is president of the board of S2AQUA - Laboratório Colaborativo, Associação para uma Aquacultura Sustentável e Inteligente, a private non-profit association whose mission is to pursue research and development (R&D) activities for innovation in Aquaculture and holds the status of Collaborative Laboratory. It presented the project to create the S2AquaCoLab Collaborative Laboratory in 2020.
