Carla de Sousa Santos earned her graduation in Environmental Sciences and Technology from the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto (FCUP), in 2019. During her graduation, she was involved in a curricular internship at company Penafiel Verde E.M. with a project entitled "Ecological assessment of the Cavalum River". C.S. Santos completed her MSc Degree in Environmental Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), in 2022. Her MSc thesis was carried out at the Associate Laboratory LSRE-LCM, entitled "Foto-Fenton a pH Neutro usando um Foto-Reator de Membrana Tubular para Dosagem Radial de Fe (II): Avaliação da Degradação de Contaminantes de Preocupação Emergente em Águas Residuais", developed under the NORWATER project (http://nor-water.eu), in close collaboration with the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), Spain. Based on the research developed in her master's thesis, C.S. Santos published an article in an international scientific journal as first author (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cej.2023.146655) and presented 2 virtual posters/videos in international conferences. From November 2021 to March 2023, she has been a research fellow at Associate Laboratory LSRE-LCM, in the scope of the ERA-NET SERPIC project (https://www.serpic-project.eu), from the Joint Programming Initiative Water Challenges for a Changing World, in collaboration with the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Norwegian Institute for Water Research, Águas de Portugal (AdP Valor) and Fraunhofer Institute. During this period, she attended the "Online Training Course in Transversal Skills in Scientific Research: Food, Innovation, Sustainability" at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA), School of Agriculture, University of Lisbon. Since March 2023, she has a Ph.D. scholarship funded by national funds (2022.10796.BD), focused on the wastewater treatment through advanced oxidation processes and membrane technology focusing on the removal of contaminants of emerging concern.
