Gabriela Ventura is a Principal Researcher in the area of Indoor Air Quality at the Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (INEGI), in Porto (Portugal). She completed her PhD in 2000, Master in 1993 and Degree in Chemistry in 1991 by the University of Porto Faculty of Sciences. The topic of her PhD thesis is "VOC Emissions from Materials Used in Building Interiors". She published 31 scientific articles in international peer reviewed journals, with over 1390 citations and with h-index 23 (SCOPUS). She was also involved in several national and European projects as AIRLOG – “Integrated Platform for Intelligent Indoor Air Quality Audit Management” (2012-2014); VOC-IDS – “Volatile Organic Compound Indoor Discrimination Sensor” (2011-2014); OFFICAIR – "On the reduction of health effects from combined exposure to indoor air pollutants in modern offices" (2010-2013); EPHECT – “Emissions, exposure patterns and health effects of consumer products in the EU” (2010- 2013); SINPHONIE – “Schools Indoor Pollution and Health: Observatory Network in Europe” (2010-2012); EnVIE – “Co-ordination Action on Indoor Air Quality and Health Effects” SSPE-CT-2004-502671. (2004-2008) between others. Presently collaborates in a European project named “INQUIRE – improving Indoor Air Quality and Health: Identification of chemical and biological determinants, their sources, and strategies to promote healthier homes in Europe” (2022-2027), HORIZON-HLTH-2021-ENVHLTH-02-02- Indoor air quality and health. She is co-leader (with VITO from Belgium) of Task 4.1: Test chamber experiments and in silico modelling to predict effectiveness of strategies to improve IAQ. She is now preparing a scientific article on the results obtained. She is also co-supervisor of a master student on Biomedical Engineering from FEUP on the study of Emissions of Volatile and Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds from Nebulizers to assess their respiratory and dermal safety, that finalizes this year.
