Inês de Maria Santos Afonso is currently a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minho, supported by a fellowship from the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). Her doctoral work is conducted in collaboration with the Mechanical Engineering and Resource Sustainability Center (MEtRICs) at UMinho, the Centro de Investigação de Montanha (CIMO) at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB), and the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL). In parallel with her PhD studies, she is also pursuing a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. She completed a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2020 and a master's degree in Industrial Engineering, specialising in Mechanical Engineering, in 2022, both at IPB. She also holds a postgraduate qualification as a Senior Safety and Hygiene Technician, obtained from the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda in 2023. In her master's dissertation, entitled "Mechanical, Chemical and Biological Characterisation of Olive Mill Wastewaters (OMWW)", she conducted a detailed analysis of an olive oil by-product for potential industrial applications. Inês has authored or co-authored 10 articles in indexed international journals, achieving an h-index of 5, and has presented her work at 4 international conferences and 1 local scientific meeting. She has also contributed to multiple research projects and scholarships.
