I have a degree in Law from the Federal University of Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and a Masters and PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon - ICSUL. I have dedicated my academic career to the study of power, with a focus on ethnographies of electoral periods. For my Master's degree, I presented my thesis, "A Festa da Política e a Criação de um Bom Político (The Party of Politics and the Creation of a Good Politician)", in which I report and analyse personal and party struggles during municipal elections in a small town in the interior of the Brazilian state of Bahia. For my PhD, I conducted a large-scale ethnography in Évora, Portugal, between 2014 and 2016, with a view to the 2015 legislative elections, entitled "Neoliberalismo, amizades e memórias - eleições numa sociedade complexa do Alentejo português (Neoliberalism, friendships and memories - elections in a complex society in the Portuguese Alentejo)". In both studies I analyse the entanglements between concepts of social class, patronage and memory. The dissertation received the highest mark from the examination board. I'm currently working on getting it published. In 2023, I started working on the Constellations of Memory project - a multi-directional study of migration and postcolonial memory. For this work, I'm focusing on digital ethnography, observing groups of friends on WhatsApp and Facebook communities linked to the project's field site, Vale da Amoreira, in the municipality of Moita, in the Lisbon Metropolitan Region. The themes I've worked on before guide my current research, but I'm extending them well beyond the field of electoral politics. As part of my work, in addition to writing articles, a book entitled "Vidas em português - memória, identidade e cidadania na era digital (Lives in Portuguese - Memory, Identity and Citizenship)" will be published in 2024. At the Centre for Comparative Studies of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, I am associated with the groups CITICOM - Citizenship, Culture and Memory and DH - Digital Humanities. I intend to continue focusing on developing methods of ethnographic access to digital environments, conducting new research on this field and contributing to the ongoing anthropological reflection on the different online universes.
