Helena Isabel Ribeiro (HR) is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science - University of Porto, where she teaches 1st and 2nd Degree classes in Environmental Sciences and Technology, and effective member of the Research Unit Institute of Earth Sciences. She has a PhD in Agricultural Sciences (pollen fertility, phenology and pollen-based crop forecasting), and a post-graduation in Environmental Management. Specific areas of research are airborne pollen/fungal spores monitoring and pollution interactions, pollen detection using spectroscopic techniques and modeling plant phenology. HR has 67 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, 6 book chapters, and more than 150 proceedings/abstracts in national and international congress, resulting in an h-index of 23 (20 without self-citation) and a total of 1542 citations (Scopus data). She made 28 oral presentations and 64 poster communications in national and international conferences (only presented those in the last 10 years). HR was PI in one National research project, involving three different University institutions, and a team member of 9 others. Participated in 1 Co-promotion research project with private companies and 2 Transnational Cooperation projects. Since 2018, HR is a team member of EUMETNET AutoPollen Programme (proof-of-concept automatic pollen monitoring network across Europe) and as of 2019, part of the proponents team and Portuguese MC Member in the COST Action CA18226-New approaches in the detection of pathogens and aeroallergens. She is part of the Portuguese team of the EXCITE2 Network European infrastructure, funded under the HORIZON-INFRASTRUCTURE-2023 call and a consultant in the R&D POLLMAR project (Pollen in the Adriatic Sea: input dynamics, chemical characterisation and effects on primary production) funded by the Croatian Science Foundation. HR (co)supervised 1 Pos-Doc researcher, 1 PhD, 2 visiting foreign PhD students, 11 MSc, 22 BSc and hosted a sabbatical leave of 1 Associate Professor of Castilla-La Mancha University. Presently she (co)supervises 3 PhD and 2 BSc students. HR served as an official reviewer for top-rated journals in Environmental Science, and the Polish government agency of National Science Centre. She is Associate Editor of Aerobiologia, published by Springer, of Frontiers in Allergy-Environmental Determinants and of Aerobiology published by MDPI. She is elected Committee member of the European Aerobiology Society. In this association, she also integrates the Working Group for the European Symposium, being part of the advisory committee of the last European Symposium on Aerobiology in 2020 where she was chairman of an oral section. HR is responsible for the International Phenological Garden in Porto (IPG-45) and for FCUPs airborne pollen monitoring station that integrates the European Aeroallergen Network and is a source of in situ data for the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) to forecasts pollen exposure risk.
