Hélder Fernando Pedrosa e Sousa has a PhD in Applied Mathematics in the area of Statistics from UTAD and Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at UTAD. He is a member of the Center for Computational and Stochastic Mathematics, CEMAT. He supervised 1 doctoral student and 6 master's students. He published 43 articles in specialized journals. His current area of research is Number Theory (optimization of prime number calculation algorithms), Probability (combinatorial analysis in multisets) and Applied Statistics where he works in multidisciplinary teams in the most varied areas such as Forestry Engineering, Sports Sciences, Psychology and Education. He also works in the area of Education and critical thinking. He has two active projects that aim to study how regular board game activity develops learning skills. One at the Diogo Cão school, in Vila Real, with 5th and 6th year students, and another, at UTAD, with first year students studying Psychology, Multimedia Communication, Physical Engineering and Biochemistry, which received the distinction “Encouragement of pedagogical innovation projects - 2023 Edition”. He is a founding member of the Ludens Association of Didactics and Playful Studies in Sciences.

2015/11 - Current Board Game Gatherings Since November 2015, I organize weekly, monthly and annual board game meetings for the school and civil community. This organization that I started in the Department of Mathematics, currently also involves the Department of Physics at UTAD. It has the support of the Instituto Português do Deporto e Juventude (IPDJ) which gives us the space for the weekly meetings on Wednesdays, and “Nosso Shopping” Administration, where the monthly meetings are held on a Saturday or Sunday (11 meetings per year, except up December).
