Pedro Amaro completed the PhD in Atomic Physics in 2011/12/22 in a Joint Doctorate program between NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA-SST) and Sorbonne Université. Presented a PhD Thesis with experimental studies of forbidden transitions, including high-precision x-ray spectroscopy in highly charged ions, which allows benchmark of quantum electrodynamics as well as theoretical study of quantum multi-photon and second-order processes. Was employed as Postdoctoral fellow at the Physikalisches Institut, University of Heidelberg (2012-2013), and worked at Max-Plank Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg. Works focused on laboratory measurement of angular distribution and polarization of x-rays produced by highly charged ions relevant in high-temperature plasmas. Later returned to NOVA-SST, as Postdoc fellow (2014-2018) with scholarship provided by FCT. Here continued previous projects and initiated a new one in laser spectroscopy of muonic atoms with the CREMA collaboration. Later was appointed Assistant Professor of Physics at NOVA-SST since December 2018. Performed research at several international institutions during the PhD studies, Posdoc contract, invitations as well as with visiting researcher status with a total of 10 years abroad. Published 67 articles and 6 conference proceedings in peer-review journals, of which 23% are first-author, 4% last-author, and 25% corresponding-author. Supervised 5 MSc dissertation(s) and is supervising 3 ongoing PhD thesis(es). 876 citations with 18 h-index from Scopus. 1128 citations with 21 h-index from Goggle Scholar. Current topics of interest are multidisciplinary: from theoretical-intensive subjects of evaluating second-order quantum processes and resonances; to more experimental ones such as plasma modelling, measurement of cross sections relevant for astrophysics, as well as laser spectroscopy of muonic atoms.
