Fernão D. Magalhães obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Massachusetts at Amherst, USA, in 1997. He is currently Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto, senior researcher at LEPABE - Laboratory of Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy. He is also the president of ARCP CoLAB, a collaborative laboratory dedicated to collaboration between academia and industry in the field of Polymer Science. His main research interests are synthetic and natural adhesives, wood and cork-based composites, high-performance industrial coatings, and 2D nanomaterials for biomedical applications. Most of his research projects have been in collaboration with national industry, involving product development and optimization. He has supervised or cosupervised about 30 PhD projects, one third of which have been in industrial context. He teaches classes on Polymer Science and Engineering, Process Control, and Industrial Automation, and received the Pedagogic Excellence Award from FEUP in 2014.
