Luís Pedro Melo de Almeida é Professor Auxiliar em Geologia Marinha e Costeira na Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. Oceanógrafo de formação, especializou-se em dinâmica e processos costeiros, eventos extremos e avaliação de riscos costeiros, integrando deteção remota, modelação numérica e ciência de dados no desenvolvimento de soluções digitais para monitorização e apoio à decisão. Doutorado pela University of Plymouth (Reino Unido) em morfodinâmica costeira e deteção remota, realizou investigação pós-doutoral no IRD e no CNES (França), e foi Professor Visitante Estrangeiro na FURG (Brasil), onde colaborou no desenvolvimento de ferramentas digitais aplicadas à gestão costeira, incluindo o sistema CASSIE. Antes de integrar o corpo docente da Universidade de Lisboa, liderou a área de riscos costeiros no CoLAB +ATLANTIC, onde desenvolveu aplicações operacionais baseadas em observação da Terra integradas na plataforma Atlantic SENSE e o sistema BigWaveTracker para monitorização de ondas extremas. A sua produção científica inclui cerca de 50 publicações indexadas e contribuições relevantes no desenvolvimento de metodologias e sistemas aplicados à previsão da evolução da linha de costa, análise de erosão e inundação, satélite-derived bathymetry, altimetria por satélite, video-monitorização e geoinformática, com foco transversal na adaptação às alterações climáticas, aumento da resiliência costeira e suporte estratégico a ecossistemas, comunidades e atividades da economia azul.
