José A.S. Mendes (born in 2000) holds a BSc in Bioengineering (2021) and an MSc in Biotechnology (2023) from the University of Beira Interior. Throughout his academic journey, he focused on cellulose-based fibrous materials derived from plant sources such as eucalyptus, pine, and hemp. His research included fiber and structural modification processes, 3D computational simulations for structural optimization, molecular modeling, and the development of polymeric molecule delivery systems. Currently, José is a research fellow at iBET, where he has gained hands-on experience in upstream and downstream processing of viral vectors (AAV) and biomolecules (mAbs), including their analytical characterization. He is actively involved in a European project focused on developing more affordable and sustainable alternatives to traditional purification methods.
