Graduated in Marine Biology with a master’s degree in 2008, from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. André started to work with marine mammal in 2010 as a naturalist and at the same time as researcher at AIMM – Marine Environment Research Association. In 2012 he became a Scuba Diver Instructor (currently with 3000 dives and more than 50 graduated students) and took a position as board member, researcher and coordinator of scientific operations at AIMM. He is a WCA (World Cetacean Alliance) founder partner and Chair of the Science Working Group in this alliance in 2016 and 2017. In 2014 organize and participate his first acoustic survey in the south of Portugal and in the next 2 years he was he leader of AIMM acoustic project in Algarve. In the past years, participated in several scientific expeditions in Portugal and abroad as marine research, acoustician and or scientific diver. AIMM is pioneer using AUV’s for marine research in Portugal, and André is involve since the beginning with AIMM’s UAV’s projects. Have been piloting AIMM UAV’s since 2016, with more than 375 flights and around 45 hours of flight for marine research propose. Nowadays he devotes his time to the study, protection, and conservation of the cetaceans in its environment.
