Rui Sampaio is a researcher in Mechanical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal. He obtained a MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico in 2021 and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution, where he also serves as researcher of the Manufacturing and Industrial Management Unit since 2017 and as an invited teaching assistant since 2022. He received the 'Professor Mário Costa' Young Researcher Award by the Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transports and Aeronautics (LAETA) in May of 2022. In September of 2023, he was also awarded the International Award for Young Researchers by the Japanese Society for Technology of Plasticity (JSTP). His research interests are focused on metal forming, formability, joining by plastic deformation, and hybrid additive manufacturing.
