I am a researcher with more than a decade of experience studying public security, with a particular focus on community-oriented policing (COP) programs in marginalized areas of Latin America. My work has contributed to scholarly debates on the design and implementation of such programs, drawing especially on data I collected through my ethnographic research. With an empirical focus on police forces in Brazil, Mexico, and other contexts, I examine the institutional, social, and political factors that shape policing practices at the local level. My academic training began in 2012 with a Master’s degree in Latin American Studies at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, during which I conducted fieldwork in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This research experience prompted a sustained interest in public security issues and led me to pursue a Ph.D. in Political Science at the Université de Montréal. My doctoral research involved a comparative analysis of policing in working-class neighborhoods in Mexico and Brazil. I was also a postdoctoral fellow at CICS.NOVA FCSH, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, where my research examined relations between police forces and communities in Portugal. Across these research projects, I have developed long-term relationships with community leaders and social organizations, which have informed my empirical work and reinforced my commitment to studying public security from a grounded, relational perspective. My research has been disseminated through publications in peer-reviewed, high-impact journals and edited volumes, as well as through editorial roles, including the coordination of special issues for Policing & Society and Etnográfica, and more recently the co-editing of two books to be published in 2026. In addition to research, I have substantial teaching experience, having served as a teaching assistant and lecturer at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the Université de Montréal. I have also coordinated and managed multi-stakeholder research projects, acting as project manager for three research groups between 2016 and 2021. Fluent in French, English, Portuguese, and Spanish, I maintain an extensive international and interdisciplinary research network in Portugal, North America and beyond. My expertise in public security and policing, as well as in qualitative methodologies -particularly ethnography and research ethics - has led to invitations to present my work in academic and professional settings. My research agenda is guided by a commitment to community engagement, social inclusion, and social justice. I aim to contribute to bridging the gap between academic research and the practical challenges of public security by informing the development of policies and programs that promote equity, accountability, and public safety.
