Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, University of Coimbra, Portugal, 2005, Dr. Filipe Neves is a Principal Researcher (Investigador Principal) at the Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia, I.P. (LNEG), Lisbon, Portugal, where is has been involved in several national and international R&I projects in areas related with development of materials for a sustainable future and their integration in new concepts of energy conversion systems. Currently, he is the Project Coordinator of the Horizon Europe project "Sustainable energy harvesting systems based on innovative mine waste recycling - START" (Grant number: 101058632) that as a total cost of € 9 194 441,25 and a EU contribution of € 7 667 878,00. He was PI of 1 national project, LocalEnergy (PTDC/EAM-PEC/29905/2017), aimed at using powder technology to develop tetrahedrite-based thermoelectric and photovoltaic materials starting from natural and synthetic tetrahedrites. He has also been institution responsible (WP leader) for 1 European project (MIDAS - Micro and Nanoscale Design of Thermally Actuating Systems (PIRSES-GA-2013-612585). During MIDAS, he carried out one month-long research stays at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), Beijing, China (2014), at the Military Engineering Institute (IME), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2016 and 2017) and at the Institute of Radioengineering and Electronics of Russian Academy of Sciences (IRE-RAS), Moscow, Russia (2017). In addition to several publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presentations at major international conferences, he is co-author of a Portuguese patent (nº 107626). Main scientific interests: Materials for a sustainable future and their integration in new concepts of energy conversion systems, including the synthesis of metal chalcogenide semiconductors (earth abundant – low toxic materials) through advanced powder technologies.
