Luís Távora licenciou-se em Engenharia Física (Ramo de Instrumentação) pela Universidade de Coimbra, e obteve o PhD in Physics na Universidade de Surrey (UK) em 1998. É Professor Coordenador no Instituto Politécnico de Leiria (ESTG) desde 2005, onde leciona desde 2000. É investigador no Instituto de Telecomunicações, com experiência em imagiologia com raios-X em aplicações médicas e de segurança. Os seus atuais interesses de investigação incluem a análise, processamento e codificação de imagens médicas, em particular com recurso a estratégias de machine / deep learning. Exerceu diversos cargos de gestão académica (Coordenador de Curso, Diretor da ESTG) e integrou comissões de avaliação de projetos I&D em empresas promovidos pela Agência de Inovação.
