Ana Isabel Moreira is currently a researcher at the CEFT Research Group, FEUP, and developing research work on droplet microfluidics and microparticle production. She is enrolled in the Doctoral Program in Chemical and Biological Engineering developing the thesis "New blood analogue fluid based on hydrogel microparticles for biomedical applications" at FEUP. Other activities include leading training lab sessions directed to masters and PhD students and lab management activities (equipment maintenance and procurement of lab supplies). Ana Moreira completed her Master in Chemical Engineering at FEUP in 2015, contacting for the first time with the research world during her industry oriented master’s dissertation (joint collaboration FEUP-INEGI). Ana Moreira started her research in Microfluidics in 2016, at the Transport Phenomena Research Center (CEFT), on the simulation of non-Newtonian liquids flowing in microchannels. This study led to the publication of an article in a journal, entitled “Isolated Taylor Bubbles in Co-Current with Shear Thinning CMC Solutions in Microchannels - A Numerical Study”, Processes, 2020. In 2017, Ana Moreira started a Research Scholarship, at CEFT, under the theme "New biomimetic fluids for biomedical applications" (REF1: POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016861 REF2: FEUP - fluidDesigner). Since then, several scientific articles have been published: “Production of hydrogel microparticles in microfluidic devices: a review” – published, “Characterization of Gelatin Microparticle Production in a Flow Focusing Microfluidic System” – published, “Production and characterization of a blood analogue based on alginate microparticles” – published, “Rheological blood analogue with oxygen carrying capacity” – currently under submission. The work has also been presented at several relevant conferences in the field, through abstract submissions and oral presentations (IBEREO, ICEM, World Congress of Biomechanics – WCB). Ana Moreira was a member of the Organizing Committee of the 4th Doctoral Congress Engineering (DCE21). Keywords: multiphase flow; biomimetic fluids; droplet microfluidics; hydrogels; microparticles;
