Sílvia Carvalho holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering obtained from the University of Coimbra in 2015. Her research was supported by a grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and focused on aspects related to precipitation, involving climate data mining, characterization of rainfall natural variability and extremes, field and laboratory simulations, climate-soil interaction, among other applications. After her PhD, she has been a researcher in cE3c (Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes) in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, specializing in climate change. Since 2020, she has also been holding the position of Invited Assistant Professor in ISA (School of Agriculture), teaching courses in climatology, and agrometeorology. Her specialization in climate change modelling has been in an interdisciplinary perspective, being interested in the effect of climate change on different sectors such as water resources and agriculture, and what can be done about it (adaptation and mitigation). Considering their expertise, she has participated in several national and European projects, in multiple areas of climate change impacts, vulnerability and adaptation, working at global scales (e.g., Europe, Africa, South America), regional scales (e.g., municipalities) and local scales (e.g., farmlands). Within these projects, she has developed a broad partnership with universities, research organizations, private partners, as well as public authorities. She has published with scientists from several disciplines (physics, agronomy, and social sciences) and her research has also been disseminated through training courses, websites, services for private companies, and general public events.
