Ana Silva graduated from the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa with a degree in Biology, specializing in Molecular Biology and Genetics. After completing my bachelor's degree in 2020, I pursued a master's in Human Biology and Environment, with a focus on Health. As part of my master's thesis, I conducted research at the Cytoskeleton in Development and Disease Lab at NMS Research, under the supervision of Dr. Ana Pimenta-Marques, in collaboration with the infertility clinic IVIRMA Lisboa. My thesis focused on investigating the formation of the meiotic spindle in human oocytes, a process essential for preventing aneuploidies and female infertility. This field remains relatively unexplored, as little is known about spindle assembly in human oocytes. During my thesis work, I also contributed to a study on centrosome elimination in Drosophila oocytes, supervised by Dr. Ana Pimenta-Marques (NMS) and the Cell Regulation Lab (IGC). The findings of this study were published in EMBO Reports under the title "Ana1/CEP295 is an essential player in the centrosome maintenance program regulated by Polo kinase and the PCM." Currently, I am a research fellow at the Cytoskeleton in Development and Disease Lab at NMS Research, where I investigate the underlying causes of high rates of aneuploidies and female infertility. My research plays a crucial role in advancing our understanding of these mechanisms and contributing to the development of potential therapeutic interventions. Additionally, I work with Drosophila oocytes to study the interplay between microtubules and actin in meiotic spindle assembly. Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have actively participated in various congresses and courses to expand my scientific knowledge and skills. These courses include: writing in sciences, introduction to imaris, CLIC program, workshop with industry to explore synergies and knowledge transfer. Recently, I presented my work at the Casual Friday with Science Seminars at NMS and at DrosTuga, the Meeting of Portugal Drosophila research.

2023/06/09 I gave a presentation entitled: A Identidade Imaterial da Freguesia, along with two other members of Associação Maria Matos. This presentation was integrated in the meeting 1ª Jornadas Sobre Património Cultural Imaterial, organized to discuss the existence and preservation of intangible cultural heritage. This topic is one of UNESCO's goals since 2003. Since Lourinhã is a place rich in this heritage, it was important to organize this meeting to discuss what exists here, what is being done to preserve it and what can be done in the future. 1ª Jornadas Sobre Património Cultural Imaterial
